As far as workouts for this year’s Zwift Academy setup, I’m two-thirds the way through.
Of course, I’m not going to count the fact that I completely let the first race pass me by and if I’m to graduate, then the race has to happen, but we’ll get there (or not) in due course. I think there are pick-up races at the end of October for anyone who misses either racing event as part of this year’s programme.
Races aside, the fourth workout in the series is done and it’s a warm one. Of the four to date, this one was a pure sweat. 9pm on a Sunday night, lights down low in the office, windows closed, screens, PCs and consoles on – there’s a bit of heat about when it comes to jumping on the bike.
The warmup is pretty straight-forward but doesn’t wait around either and we’re straight into work – six blocks in total alternating sub-FTP and over-FTP, in my case 185W/215W for the first three, followed by a six-minute zone two spin before ramping up the over in the second block to 185W/225W, finishing off with a six-minute recovery. Your unders are four minutes, the overs just one minute. I say ‘just one minute’ but you may be feeling them by the end given the purpose of the session is to build fatigue resilience.
I’ll give it a day or two before tackling the fifth workout, seemingly it’s all about sprints and I’d much rather get a daytime handle on it than night. We go again.
